Newborn FAQ’s

When should I book my Newborn Session?
As soon as you know you’d like a Session, but 3-4 months prior to your due date is recommended to ensure availability. I only accept a limited number of newborns per month to guarantee the utmost image quality, plus a smooth client experience (and personal sanity – all that squatting and maneuvering is rough on the body and I need time to recover!).

If you already have a newborn, it may not be too late!

Sometimes last-minute openings are available since babies like to arrive into the world on their own time. Sessions should take place within the first two weeks, but I will accept “older” newborns with the understanding certain poses may not be possible, or we will gear the Session more towards lifestyle images rather than posed portraits.

When will my Session take place?
Usually within the first two weeks of life. The best time is between 6-14 days after birth to increase our chances of full baby cooperation, and so they don’t surpass that curly, itty-bitty newborn size. Seriously, they change so stinkin’ fast, and are most flexible during that specific window of time.

How do I book if I don’t know when baby will arrive?
Easy!  Step 1: Contact me. Step 2: Pay your non-refundable down payment and fill out the Contract & Client Information Form. Step 3: Hang out ‘til baby arrives. Step 4: Let me know that baby has arrived within 48 hours after delivery and we will finalize your Session date & time.

After your contract & non-refundable down payment are both on file, I pencil you into my calendar, plan accordingly around your window of arrival, then patiently await your happy news.

Newborn Sessions are scheduled Tuesday-Friday, and typically start at 10:00 AM.

Where does the Session take place?
In the comfort and convenience of your very own home.

This is one of the signature benefits when you select Little Dreamers Photography for your Newborn Session needs – I do all the work and come directly to you!

Instead of creating unnecessary stress for you by having you wake up early to get yourself, your family + baby dressed and ready, reminding you to not forget those extra clothes/blankets/mementos, making you drive to a new location and potentially getting lost, while still managing to arrive flawlessly camera-ready…instead get to revel in the familiarity and comforts of home. Seriously – no need to put yourself through any extra work with a new baby in tow!

Can siblings and parents be included?

Yes, please! I highly encourage parents to be present in photos. Your child will thank you for it. YOU will thank you for it.  Your own parents will thank you for it.  Your best friend will thank you for it. *I* will thank you for it. Are those enough reasons?
I do ask that you be realistic about sibling shot expectations, though. For toddler-aged children, having a new sibling is a HUGE change, and they may or may not participate in the manner that you expect them to, so we will play the day by ear and do our best.

If you wish to include a larger variety of family/sibling photos in your gallery, I strongly recommend choosing the posed + lifestyle package (or at the very least lifestyle package) to get a more complete session feel.

What is the difference between posed and lifestyle?
Posed = sleepy curled up baby on a backdrop
Lifestyle = sleepy or awake baby in your arms, in their crib and in natural positions
Please visit my Posed Newborn Session Information Page and
Lifestyle Newborn Session Information Page for more details

Do I need to provide props?
Nope! I do that for you too. There are a TON of different prop styles available for newborn photography. Please make sure you review my portfolio so you know what to expect and what I offer, and understand that I’m naturally inclined to choose neutrals like whites, greys and creams. I love to use swaddle wraps, and my posing is more classic and organic to ensure that your portraits are as timeless as possible to continually enjoy no matter how grown your baby gets.

How long will each Newborn Session last?
Ultimately, baby will determine the length of the session, but I allot two solid hours of shooting time for Posed or Lifestyle-Only Newborn Sessions, while the Posed + Lifestyle Package includes an additional hour of shooting, for a total of three hours total.

After I book my Newborn Session, what next?
Keep your eyes peeled on your mailbox for my Newborn Welcome Guide to arrive!  And as always, if you have any further questions, simply contact me here on my website, or give me a call and I’ll be happy to answer any further questions you may have.

Do you also photograph families with older children?
Yes, yes and yes! So many of my family clients started out as newborn clients, and I completely love the opportunity to work with and grow with your family. I think there is something super cool about building a long-term photography relationship with each of my families – we “get” each other faster, understand what to expect more fully, and can pretty much guarantee that I’ll fall in love with your kiddos.

If you’ve never had a Session with me before, though, be sure to review my family/child portfolio to see if we are a good fit for your style and photography needs. I strive to capture candid, playful family moments, so if you’re looking for a gallery full of everyone smiling at the camera, you might want to check elsewhere. Yes – I make sure to get a few of those for Grandma, but what I REALLY want is you smiling, hugging, tickling, snorting, jumping, chasing, snuggling, laughing and all-out playing with each other.
